Materials Needed

1. Wax

Choose a wax suitable for container candles, such as soy wax, paraffin wax, or beeswax. Ensure it is suitable for embedding objects and holds colors well.

2. Containers

Select heat-resistant containers for candle-making, such as glass jars or metal tins. Ensure they are clean and dry before use.

3. Wicks

Use pre-tabbed candle wicks appropriate for the diameter of your containers. Wick size affects how well the candle burns, so choose accordingly.

4. Embedded Objects

Choose dried flowers, herbs, shells, decorative stones, beads, or other small objects to embed in the candles. Ensure they are heat-resistant and suitable for use in candles.

5. Heat Source

Double boiler or microwave-safe container for melting wax. Avoid direct heat sources to prevent wax from overheating.

6. Fragrance Oils or Essential Oils (Optional)

Select a fragrance oil or essential oil to scent your candles. Ensure it is suitable for use in candles and follow recommended usage rates.

7. Candle Dye (Optional)

Candle dye chips, liquid candle dye, or crayons can be used to color the wax. Choose colors that complement your embedded objects or match your decor.

8. Stirring Utensil

A spoon, chopstick, or dedicated candle-making stirrer for mixing wax and additives.

9. Hot Glue Gun or Wick Stickers

Use a hot glue gun or wick stickers to secure wicks to the bottom of containers.

Creating DIY Embedded Object Candles

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Clear a clean, flat surface for candle-making. Protect the area with newspaper or a crafting mat to catch spills.

2. Prepare Containers and Wicks

Secure wicks to the bottom center of each container using a hot glue gun or wick stickers. Ensure wicks are centered and upright.

3. Arrange Embedded Objects

Place embedded objects such as dried flowers, herbs, shells, or decorative elements into the bottom of each container. Arrange them in a pleasing design or scatter them for a natural look.

4. Melt the Wax

Place wax in a double boiler or microwave-safe container. Heat gently until the wax is completely melted, stirring occasionally. Monitor temperature if using a thermometer.

5. Add Color and Scent (Optional)

  • Divide melted wax into separate containers or pour pitchers for each layer if adding color or scent. Add the desired amount of candle dye or crayon shavings to achieve the desired color. Stir well to blend color evenly.
  • Add fragrance oil or essential oil to the melted wax according to recommended usage rates. Stir thoroughly to distribute fragrance.

6. Pour Wax into Containers

Carefully pour melted wax into prepared containers, covering embedded objects. Leave a small amount of space at the top. Allow the wax to cool and harden slightly before proceeding.

7. Embed Additional Objects (Optional)

For layering effect, add more embedded objects between layers of poured wax. Ensure each layer is sufficiently cooled before adding more objects.

8. Allow to Set and Trim Wicks

  • Let candles cool and harden completely, usually for several hours or overnight, depending on wax type and container size.
  • Trim wicks to about 1/4 inch above the wax surface once the candles are fully set. This promotes even burning.

9. Decorate and Display

Optionally, decorate containers with ribbons, labels, or charms to personalize your embedded object candles. Display them in your home or package them beautifully as gifts for loved ones.

Remember
