Materials Needed

1. Teacups

Repurpose vintage teacups, or thrifted teacups to give your candles a unique look. Ensure they are heat-resistant and stable.

2. Wax

Choose a wax suitable for container candles, such as soy wax, paraffin wax, or beeswax. Soy wax is a popular choice for its clean burn and ability to hold fragrance well.

3. Wick

Select pre-tabbed wicks appropriate for the size of your teacups. Choose wicks that long enough to extend slightly above the rim of the teacups.

4. Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil

Choose a high-quality fragrance oil or essential oil to scent your candles. Ensure it is suitable for use in candles and follow recommended usage rates based on the amount of wax you use.

5. Candle Dye (Optional)

Candle dye chips or liquid candle dye to color the wax. Select colors that complement your teacups or match your decor theme.

6. Double Boiler or Microwave-Safe Container

For melting wax. Avoid direct heat sources to prevent wax from overheating.

7. Stirring Utensil

A spoon, or chopstick for mixing wax and additives.

Creating DIY Scented Teacup Candles

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Clear a clean, flat surface for candle-making. Protect the area with newspaper or a crafting mat to catch spills.

2. Prepare Teacups and Wicks

Ensure teacups are clean and dry. Secure wicks in the center of each teacup using a wick holder or by adhering with a small amount of melted wax.

3. Melt the Wax

Melt wax in a double boiler or microwave-safe container, stirring occasionally until completely melted. Monitor wax temperature to prevent overheating.

4. Add Color and Scent (Optional)

  • Divide melted wax into separate containers or pour pitchers if adding color or scent. Add the desired amount of candle dye to achieve your preferred color. Stir well until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Add fragrance or essential oil to the melted wax according to recommended usage rates. Stir thoroughly to blend the fragrance evenly.

5. Pour Wax into Teacups

Carefully pour scented wax into prepared teacups, ensuring wicks remain centered. Leave a small space at the top to accommodate any wax contraction as it cools.

6. Cool and Set

Allow candles to cool and harden completely, usually for several hours or overnight, depending on wax type and teacup size. Avoid moving or disturbing the candles during this time.

7. Trim Wicks and Finish

Trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch above the candle surface. This promotes even burning when the candle is lit.

8. Display and Enjoy

Place your DIY scented teacup candles on a decorative tray or shelf. Light them to enjoy their gentle glow and fragrant aroma, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your home.

Remember

  • Teacup Selection

Choose teacups with wide rims or stable bases to ensure safe candle burning.

  • Fragrance Choices

Experiment with some fragrances or essential oils to create unique scents that suit your preferences.

  • Decorative Touches

Add decorative elements like ribbons or dried flowers around the teacups for an extra personalized touch.
